Is Johnnie Walker about to be joined by Jane?

Diageo has refused to be drawn on reports that the company, which makes the Johnnie Walker blended Scotch whisky brand, is planning a product under the 'Jane Walker' name.

According to a report by US celebrity news site TMZ, Diageo "filed paperwork in early January to trademark the name Jane Walker for all alcoholic beverages except beer". A spokesperson for Diageo told just-drinks today that the company would not comment on the story, although a trademark application to the US Patent & Trademark Office was made by the group earlier this month.

TMZ's article said the 'Jane Walker' concept had been touted in 2016, around the time of the US presidential election, though it was scrapped after Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump.

Earlier this month, Diageo launched the next expression in the Blenders' Batch range from Johnnie Walker. The 12-year-old iteration, which has rolled out exclusively across Global Travel Retail, comprises liquid distilled in Diageo distilleries including Blair Athol, Cardhu and Strathmill. The range launched in September 2016 and features Red Rye Finish, Bourbon Cask & Rye Finish, Wine Cask Blend, Rum Cask Finish and Espresso Roast.
