The company said late yesterday that production and export operations had restarted at the facility in Ponce. The move follows last week's announcement from Beam Suntory that its Cruzan plant had resumed production in the US Virgin Islands

Silvia Santiago, SVP of manufacturing at Destilería Serrallés said yesterday: "Our team has worked tirelessly over the last few weeks to ensure the recovery of our operations, despite the level of destruction, lack of power and other challenges resulting from the aftermath of the hurricane."

The company said resuming production and exports would have a positive impact on the local economy, "adding much needed tax revenues to our local government that will in turn assist in our country's recovery".
