Sales of Champagne in France in December 2003 surpassed the last two years, according to figures released last week. The French retail chain Auchan reported an increase of 15% year-on-year in champagne sales for the month of December.

In France as a whole, Champagne sales at the end of 2003 were higher than sales at the end of 2002 and 2001, according to French News Digest.

Auchan has 320 hypermarkets and 616 supermarkets under the names Auchan, Alcampo, Atac, Expresso and Sabeco.
