A new wine company has been formed, aiming to promote reduced alcohol wines in the UK market.

DB Wines, a consortium of individuals and businesses from the US and European wine industry, said today (23 July) that it has named the category 'new generation' wine. The company defined this as "wine which is reduced in alcohol content, without any sacrifice of aroma, flavour or integrity".

The new company will be headed up by managing director Mark Beasley and Iain Stewart as director of sales, formerly of Castle Brands and Coors Brewing.

The first launch from DB is Spanish offering Sovio, which will be available in both white and rose variants. Sovio  has an abv of 8% and will be available in the UK on-trade from September.

Beasley said: "I think the trade will be intrigued with our first launch, which satisfies consumer demand for wine which is reduced in alcohol, whilst also authentic, delicious and refreshing."
