Danone has confirmed that its Taillefine 'nature' bottled water will be withdrawn from sale in order to conform with EU legislation.

France's General Directorate for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) has ordered Danone to pull Taillefine 'nature' from sale before the end of the year.

Enriched with calcium and magnesium and backed by advertising campaigns focusing on its health benefits and slimming properties, Taillefine was launched in 2001. It has subsequently fallen foul EU legislation prohibiting the addition of minerals to bottled water, passed into French law in 2007.

Danone said the ruling only concerns Taillefine 'nature' and not other Taillefine varieties, such as Taillefine Tea and Taillefine Fizz.

The French group told just-drinks today (5 May) that it is currently running down stocks of Taillefine 'nature', which reported EUR3m in 2008.
