Spain's third-largest brewer Damm is to invest EUR240m (US$291m) to double output to 5m hectolitres at its largest factory in El Pratt de Llobregat, Barcelona, a company spokeswoman confirmed to just-drinks today (30 March).

Under the project, scheduled for completion in 2010, Damm will spend EUR60m on building a 200,000sq metre logistics hub in the Zona Zal 2 section of the El Pratt de Llobregat port, the spokeswoman added.

Damm will also employ the funds to streamline production at the site, which will raise its staff count to 600 from 400.

Damm produces 2.5m hectolitres at El Pratt, a sea-side industrial strip located near Barcelona's airport.

The company sells the well-known Damm Estrella and Damm Estrella Sin beer brands in Spain.
