UK-based Dalston's has secured the nation-wide launch of its Dalston craft soda brand via Waitrose supermarkets. The company will roll out five flavours including cola, ginger beer, lemonade, fizzy apple and cream soda.

Dalston's is based in East London and was started in 2012 by former chef Duncan O'Brien. The products contain "fresh, natural ingredients". The company aims to appeal to consumers seeking alternatives to the major soft drinks brands.

Dalston's said its cola and ginger beer variants fall beneath the UK's proposed sugar tax threshold of five grams per 10cl.

The drinks were initially sold in a local nightclub. A spokesperson for the company told just-drinks the products are currently also available in Reykjavik and Milan, "but the main focus for the moment is the UK".

"The food and drink industry has seen a renaissance in smaller, craft brands over the last few years, which is where the idea for all natural soft drinks came from," said O'Brien. "Launching into Waitrose is a landmark moment for us - something which we'd dreamed of when we first started out. The next steps for us now are to continue to develop and grow our brand, and build on our fast growing market share."
