Fledgling English spirits producer, the Cotswolds Distillery, has appointed its first head distiller.

Alex Davies is joining the Shipston-on-Stour-based producer from Chase Distillery in Herefordshire. The Cotswolds Distillery will begin to distil gin as its first spirit in September, followed by whisky.

The distillery will officially open next month, while its first single malt whisky is expected to be released in 2017

Other appointments include Shaun Smith as head brewer & assistant distillery manager; Nicholas Franchino as assistant distiller; and Rachel Tranter, who will head up marketing, the company said.

Founder Daniel Szor said: "We are launching The Cotswolds Distillery with a highly-experienced team who have the ambition and passion to create world-class spirits and liqueurs.”
