Canada's Competition Bureau has given the proposed Coors/Molson merger the all-clear. The Bureau said yesterday (13 October) that, following a review of the proposed deal, it could find no reasons to block it.

The US Federal Trade Commission gave the merger its blessing last week.

The brewers now expect their joint proxy circular, filed on 18 September, to be cleared by the US Securities and Exchange Commission by the middle of next month. It would then be submitted to Quebec Superior Court and mailed to Molson shareholders.

A vote by Molson shareholders is tentatively scheduled for the week of 13 December. If two-thirds of both classes of shareholders vote in favour, the two brewers would together become the third-largest beer maker in North America.
