Coors Brewing Co. is looking to expand its packaging plant in Virginia, according to local reports.

The US brewer plans to invest US$24m in the plant, which distributes beer to north-eastern and mid-Atlantic states, the Denver Post said yesterday (10 January).

"This expansion will make the Coors Shenandoah Valley plant an even more vital part of Coors' future," Virginia Gov. Mark Warner was cited saying in the report.

While the company plans to build a new brewery near the packaging plant in the Shenandoah Valley, at a cost of US$190m, Coors is set to close its brewing and packaging facilities in Memphis early next year.

Coors is a subsidiary of Molson Coors Brewing Co., which was formed when Molson and Coors merged last year.

No-one was available for comment at Coors when contacted by just-drinks today (11 January).
