Conviviality purchased wholesale and distribution company Matthew Clark earlier this year. Aylwin replaces the unit's former CEO Steve Thomson, who will step down in order to pursue other interests, Conviviality said.

Thomson had held the position of CEO for ten years. Aylwin is to take up the managing director post from January. He was previously managing director at wholesaler Booker Retail Partners.

The company also announced today that Ian Smith, commercial director of Matthew Clark, has been promoted to deputy managing director, with immediate effect.

Diana Hunter, CEO of Conviviality, said: "I am pleased with the progress we have made since the acquisition and the integration is ahead of plan. The key hires required to deliver our synergies are in place ahead of plan and all the teams in both businesses are working well together."

Thomson is to work with the company on a consultancy basis "for a period of time on a number of key projects", Hunter added.
