Constellation Europe has announced senior management changes to its wine, spirits and cider divisions as part of a major restructuring plan.

Constellation said today (5 January) that John Mills, currently managing director of the firm's Gaymer Cider subsidiary, will be responsible for wine sales across the UK and mainland Europe.

His appointment as senior vice president of European sales is part of a strategy to house UK and European sales teams under one leadership.

"Constellation Europe is making major changes to its structure, to maintain its lead in the increasingly competitive market place," the group said.

A spokesperson told just-drinks in December that the firm plans to cut 50 jobs in the UK, following tax hikes on wine and "negative growth" in the sector.

Mills, who has worked for Constellation and UK distributor Matthew Clark for 15 years, was credited by Constellation president Troy Cristensen for revitalising Gaymer sales.

He will be replaced at Gaymer by Peter Spencer, who has spent the last four years as senior vice president of wine sales for the UK.

Constellation Europe's parent firm, California-based Constellation Brands, is due to report its quarterly results on 7 January.
