Constellation Brands' beer unit is to move into a new Chicago headquarters as rampant success sees it outgrow its home of 30 years.

The company said this week its entire Chicago team, which includes some wine & spirits employees as well as the beer division, will relocate to the new office in March 2018. It said the new office - one block south of its current location - will offer more space and flexibility.

The move comes after Constellation increased its Chicago headcount by 60% in the past two years, with the addition of 120 local jobs, a spokesperson told just-drinks. The increase is down to a surge in sales and volumes following its full takeover of Grupo Modelo from Anheuser-Busch InBev in 2012

The deal, which gave Constellation the US rights to Mexican beer brands such as Modelo and Corona Extra, has helped drive performance for the company as demand surges for Mexican beer in the US. Its share price has leaped more than eight-fold since the deal, while according to the latest Nielsen figures, in the three months to 21 May Modelo Especial was up 22%.

"We're investing more aggressively in our business than ever before to keep the momentum going," the spokesperson said.

Constellation's headquarters is in Victor, New York.
