Bill Newlands, who has been appointed Constellation Brands' chief growth officer

Constellation Brands has appointed a former Beam Inc executive as its chief growth officer, a newly-created role.

Bill Newlands, who quit Beam in May last year, will take up the post with Constellation on 26 January. He will report in to Rob Sands, Constellation's president & CEO.

Newlands, who was Beam's North America president, will head up “corporate strategy and business development” including “new product development and innovation”, Sands said.

Constellation has seen impressive sales growth since taking full control of Grupo Modelo's brands in the US in 2013. Last week, the group reported a 31% jump in nine-month net revenue

Newlands was one of three senior executives to leave Beam last year in the wake of the company being taken over by Japan's Suntory Holdings. He has also worked for Allied Domecq, LVMH and E&J Gallo Winery in the course of a 30-year career.
