Concha y Toro's storming third-quarter followed a so-so first half

The Chile-based wine company, which is the second-largest vineyard owner in the world (behind E&J Gallo), said late last week that net profits in the nine months to the end of September came in 7.5% up on the corresponding period a year earlier. Sales in the year so far rose similarly, by almost 10%.

The figures were boosted by a strong Q3, with net profits in the three months leaping by over a third as sales rose by almost 15%. In its half-year results, released in September, Concha y Toro flagged a poor first quarter for pulling net profits down by 11.3%, as sales in the six-month period rose by only 6.5%.

The rise in sales in the first nine months of 2015 was credited to "higher commercialised volumes, a premiumisation of sales and a positive effect derived from exchange rate fluctuations". Exports in the period increased by almost 9%, while domestic sales were up by 6.4%.
