The US soft drinks giant, Coca-Cola, has named Jose Reyes as the president and chief operating officer of its Latin America division.

Reyes has been promoted from the post of president of Coca-Cola's North Latin America business with a brief to revive slow sales in the region.

The Latin American region, which includes Mexico, accounts for around 25% of Coca-Cola's volumes. In the first nine months of 2002, the company's sales in the region rose by just 1% as a result of poor sales in Brazil, Venezuela and Argentina.
