The Coca-Cola Co has axed 140 jobs from its information technology department, as part of a reorganisation.

Coca-Cola employed 750 information technology workers in Atlanta before Tuesday's changes, plus 250 more worldwide.

"This was part of a business-planning process that has been going on for several months," Coke spokesman Ben Deutsch said.

Deutsch said severance packages will offer separation pay and outplacement services to workers. No other layoffs currently were planned in other departments, he said.
This is the latest in a line of severance moves Coca-Cola has made in the past two years, often to shave costs. In 2000, the beverage giant trimmed 5,200 of its 29,000 employees.
