PepsiCo India and Coca-Cola India have both received a court summons for India's Supreme Court to answer allegations that they have damaged the ecology by painting advertisements on the rock faces of eco-fragile Himalayas, Press Trust of India reported today.

The report quoted solicitor General Harish Salve, who told the court that the companies' advertisements were painted on rocks around the Manali-Rohtang road in northern Himachal Pradesh. He was reported as saying that the mountain were eco-fragile and that the damage was irreparable.

A three-judge bench issued the summonses following Salve's application. It was unclear from the report when the case will be heard.
