Coca-Cola India now controls over 60% of the Indian carbonated soft drinks market the company has said. It said ithat by the end of May this year it had 60.5%.

The Indian press quoted tha company saying: "This is the first time since our re-entry in '93 that we have picked up such a huge share of the Indian market."

Quoting May figures from the latest national retail audit report by ORG-MARG, Coca-Cola India said its marketshare in the CSD category increased 1.8% over April - the fourth consecutive month that Coca-Cola India has recorded a market share increase over the previous month.

"The latest figures truly reflect the leadership position that we enjoy in the market. We will continue with our drive to provide affordable and exciting array of products to our consumers. We are already working on new products and hope to capture a larger share of both the markets," said Sanjiv Gupta, deputy president of Coca-Cola India.
