The company, which is the world's largest franchise bottler in the Coca-Cola system, has spent around US$500m on the two sites, both of which will "implement the latest technology to deliver a more efficient use of energy and water".

The Brazilian facility, in Itabirito in Minas Gerais, started production in November, and has an annual capacity of 370m unit cases.

In Colombia, the Tocancipá site came on line in February and has an annual production capacity of around 130m cases.

In first-quarter results released in April, Coca-Cola FEMSA posted a 5% fall in net profits on an 11% slip in sales.
