CCEP said yesterday that it will invest EUR27.9m (US$31.6m) in a new canning line. Work on the new line will start in January and it is expected to be operational by autumn 2019.

The company said it has invested around EUR100m in the facility since 2015.

"The investments in the bottling plant go hand in hand with encouraging sustainable consumer behaviour," CCEP said. "Coca-Cola wants to recover 100% of its packaging by 2025, in the fight against litter."

The production and distribution facility in Ghent is one of seven CCEP branches in Belgium.

"The new line... will run at a speed of 120,000 cans per hour and produce different can sizes, including the narrower and smaller cans," said production director Bernard Santens. "In this way we continue to adapt to the evolving market and the demand from customers and consumers."
