Coca-Cola Enterprises has long been linked with a move for Coca-Cola Co's German operations

Late yesterday, the Wall Street Journal cited unnamed sources in a report claiming that CCE is in "advanced talks" over a deal to team up with Coca-Cola Erfrischungsgetränke and Coca-Cola Iberian Partners. Although no direct quotes appeared in the report, the WSJ suggested that any possible deal would "be valued well into the billions of dollars".

When contacted by just-drinks today, a spokesperson for CCE said: "As a matter of company policy, we do not comment on rumour or speculation."

The German bottling unit is owned by The Coca-Cola Co and has long been expected to be snapped up by CCE since the former acquired CCE's operations in North America in 2010.

CCE operates in Belgium, France, the UK, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.

Coca-Cola Enterprises shares leapt in trading this morning: At 1033 EDT, they were 12.5% up at US$51.14.
