Coca-Cola Japan Co is to launch a green tea-flavoured Coca-Cola that also acts as a fat busting functional food, the company has said.

Artificially sweetened and calorie-free, Coca-Cola Plus Catechin will be launched next week and is aimed at diet conscious young women. It contains a green tea compound that studies show can help burn fat, the firm said this week.

At JPY147 per 500ml bottle, the drink joins other functional drinks popular in Japan.

"We will be strongly promoting Coca-Cola Plus Catechin to young Japanese women this summer," said Coca-Cola Japan.

"Plus Catechin Coca-Cola is one more in a line of functional Plus brands we will be developing further over time."
