Coca-Cola Amatil's joint venture with SABMiller, Pacific Beverages, is set to launch a low-carbohydrate version of Italy's Peroni lager into the Australian market.

Peroni Leggera (Italian for light) will be rolled out during March, said CCA chief executive Terry Davis.

"This is an exciting development and a significant coup for Pacific Beverages, given that Australia will be the first market outside Italy to launch this beer,'' he said.

"We've already taken a lot of forward orders so I hope it will cement Peroni as the number-one imported beer brand in Australia over time.''

Corona, distributed in Australia by Foster's, is currently Australia's top-selling imported beer.
