Chapel Down, the English wine producer and brewer, is to launch a Nebuchadnezzar bottle of sparkling wine priced at GBP5,000 (US$7,860).

The 15-litre bottle of Blanc de Blancs 2008 will be part of the wine list at London's St Pancras Renaissance Hotel alongside other Chapel Down brands. The company said it is the most expensive English wine to date.

“The release demonstrates the growing success and appreciation of English wine,” said Frazer Thompson, CEO of Chapel Down.

Chapel Down's Curious Brew range of beers will also go on sales at the hotel with distribution handled by Matthew Clark.

In September, the company raised nearly GBP3m in ten days from a crowd-funding project.
