Champagne growers' union Syndicat Général des Vignerons de la Champagne has appointed Jean-Mary Tarlant as its new president after ousting Patrick Le Brun from the post.
 
Le Brun stepped down last month after 33 of the union's 41 administrators demanded his departure.   

A union official told just-drinks today (9 December): "Basically, board members considered that they were not being consulted enough in the decision-making process and not kept properly informed.

"This situation prevailed for a number of months and ended in a vote of no confidence in Mr Le Brun."  
 
Le Brun was re-elected president for a two-year term in July 2009, narrowly beating Tarlant, who will now become president of the union and its 20,000 growers and cooperatives across the Champagne producing region.
 
Tarlant, 58, manages 14 hectares of vineyards in the Marne Valley.
