Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Co. has acquired Serbian juice maker Fresh & Co. in a joint deal with Coca-Cola Co.

The Greek bottler closed the deal just over a month after talks with Fresh & Co. appeared to have broken down.

A CCHBC spokesman told just-drinks today (20 January) that initial negotiations had revealed that Fresh & Co. could not meet the company's guidelines on "capital discipline".

He said, however, that Serbia's leading juice maker had this month approached Coca-Cola HBC to restart talks - and the bottler decided to finalise the deal for an undisclosed sum.

"CCHBC's aim is to increase its exposure to non-CSDs and this (deal) falls into that strategy. CCHBC is always on the look-out for good opportunities in markets with strong growth prospects."

Under the deal, CCHBC has acquired a production facility in the Serbian town of Subotica and the brands Next and Su Voce.

Fresh & Co. is market leader in Serbia with a market share of 40% in 2004, the last year for which figures were available. Its nearest rival holds a market share of 10%.
