Irish drinks group C&C is suing Groupe Danone following the French firm's decision to end a distribution deal between the two companies.

C&C launched the legal action after Danone last month terminated a 20-year agreement covering the distribution of Evian and Volvic in Ireland.

C&C is suing for damages in Ireland's commercial court, arguing that the notice period was too short for such a lengthy deal. The agreement was worth EUR12m (US$14.1m) a year, C&C said.

Evian and Volvic's share of the Irish market grew from just 2% to almost 14% during C&C's handling of the business.

C&C and Danone both declined to comment further.
