Carlsberg has rolled out a new Tuborg to the Indian market. Tuborg Classic is described by the firm as "India's first premium strong beer with Scotch malts".

The product initially launched in Maharashtra, with "select states" to follow over the next few months. Tuborg Classic will roll out in 65cl bottles across all launch markets and 50cl cans in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.

A spokesperson for Carlsberg told just-drinks that the new product is not the same as Tuborg Classic in Denmark, but specially created for the Indian palate.

"With Tuborg Classic, we aim to further strengthen our presence and commitment to the Indian market and expand the Tuborg product portfolio," said Carlsberg India's marketing director Mahesh Kanchan. "It is an endeavour to create a differentiated category of premium strong beer and further strengthen our strong premium beer portfolio in India."

Earlier this week, Carlsberg's UK unit unveiled a GBP15m advertising campaign for Carlsberg Export, starring Mads Mikkelsen.
