Carlsberg continues to pursue a larger stake in Vietnam's Habeco

The CEO of Carlsberg has said the firm is still working on a deal to increase its stake in Vietnam's state-controlled Hanoi Beer Alcohol & Beverage Corp (Habeco).

However, speaking to analysts last week, following a third-quarter trading update, Cees 't Hart said there has been little movement in the three-month period. "We are supportive of the government's privatisation agenda," he said. "We wish to serve as a partner for the government and we're still negotiating.

"It's a substantive and legally complex process," Hart told analysts. "We look forward to continuing our positive conversation with the government and Habeco on this topic."

He said Carlsberg has been continuing talks with the government "for the last four or five months".

"And we see... new deadlines from the government and the [latest] one is by the end of November. So, we're working towards that," he said.

In May, the deal appeared to be progressing, after Hart said he had made several visits to Vietnam. "The process is, if you like, hot," he said at the time. Though he also warned that there was no timescale and the process is "pretty complicated".

Carlsberg initially confirmed it was "in dialogue" with the Vietnamese government more than a year ago.
