Carlsberg is set to take over the distribution of Modelo's Corona beer brand in Singapore and Malaysia from Asia Pacific Breweries.

The Denmark-based brewer said today (17 October) that it will handle Corona in the nations starting at the beginning of next year. The move reciprocates the announcement made in July that Modelo will act as distributor for Carlsberg's flagship namesake beer in its home country of Mexico.

Specific terms of the distribution arrangement in the Far East, which will up Carlsberg's market share in Singapore to over 25%, were not disclosed.

"We are very pleased and excited to work with Modelo and their Corona products which will complement Carlsberg's already established beer brand portfolio in Singapore," said Lars Stjernstrøm, general manager for Carlsberg Singapore.

Carlsberg noted that the two companies have "complementary distribution channels, which together will boost the overall strength of the combined sales channels". In addition, Carlsberg expects to leverage its existing sales and marketing team to drive Corona's sales in the two countries.

APB is jointly-owned by Heineken, which has a 42% stake, and Fraser & Neave.
