The UK unit of Campari has rolled out its Crodino non-alcoholic aperitif in the market.

Late last week, the company announced the UK release, which it hopes will capitalise on the "increasing consumer demand for alcohol alternatives" in the country. The brand is the flagship offering of Campari's soft drinks presence in its domestic Italian market.

Named after its hometown of Crodo in north-west Italy, Crodino carries a bitter taste and is designed to be consumed as an aperitif.

"There is a clear demand for bitter drinks," said Campari UK MD Pietro Mattioni. "It's great to be expanding our offering in the UK by adding a non-alcoholic aperitif, which offers customers a sophisticated alternative to alcohol. Crodino has long enjoyed great success in Italy and we are confident that it will be a popular addition to the UK drinking and dining scene."

Campari UK cited data from the Office of National Statistics showing that 40% of adult respondents had not drunk alcohol in the last week, with half of that 40% claiming to be teetotal - "the lowest rate of alcohol consumption since the survey began over ten years ago".

Launching in the UK on-premise, Crodino has an RRP of GBP2.50 (US$3.20) per individual serve.
