Japanese beverage group, Calpis Co., has forecast an 11% rise in group pre-tax profit to Y3.95 billion, compared with last year. However, rising sales, promotional and advertising costs will result in profits falling Y250m short of an earlier forecast.

But Calpis also reported that it had enjoyed higher-than-anticipated sales of Evian mineral water and Ameal S, its lactic-acid beverage designed to lower blood pressure.

Overall sales are forecast to rise by 2% to Y120 billion, with sales of Evian up by 40%. The Calpis water brand is expected to show a sales rise of 6%, while sales of Ameal S are forecast to increase by 20%.

Calpis is forecasting operating profit of Y3.85 billion, representing a rise of 15%, but Y350m below its earlier forecast. The company is expected to pay an annual dividend Y8.
