Budejovicky Budvar has claimed success in the latest round of its legal battle against Anheuser-Busch. The Czech brewer said yesterday (27 January) that it has gained the right to sell its beer under its original brand names in the Benelux region.

In a statement, Budvar said that the Commercial Court of Brussels ruled on 13 January to uphold its rights for the Budweiser Budvar, Budvar, Budweiser and Budiwoyz trademarks in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

"We are very pleased that the court rejected their claims and upheld our rights to these trademarks," said Jiri Bocek, Budvar's general director.

Anheuser-Busch still may appeal the verdict, Budvar said.
