Brown-Forman has signed a "co-operation agreement" with Chinese baijiu maker Wuliangye Yibin Co.

The deal was agreed earlier this month

The deal was agreed earlier this month

The Jack Daniels owner said the deal, signed earlier this month, will see the two companies share best industry practices and market insights. It also said they will “jointly explore ways the two firms might work together in ways that benefit both companies”.

Further details on the nature of the deal were not disclosed.

Wuliangye Yibin, based in Sichuan province in China's south-west, produces one of China best-known baijiu brands, Wuliangye.

The company has been hard hit by China's anti-extravagance measures and in 2013 posted a 19.8% drop in full-year net profits, blaming “restructuring” in the market after a decade of strong growth, according to local reports.

In Brown-Forman's FY results released in June, China sales were up by 64%, though from a small base.
