After announcing its return to the single malt Scotch whisky segment in April, Brown-Forman said today that it has closed the transaction. The spend, initially expected to be GBP285m (US$416.4m), was confirmed as coming in at GBP281m.

When contacted by just-drinks, a spokesperson for Brown-Forman said the difference in price was due to "customary closing adjustments".

The purchase comprises three single malt brands, The GlenDronach, BenRiach, and Glenglassaugh, along with three malt distilleries, a bottling plant and the company's offices in Edinburgh.

"With this acquisition, Brown-Forman re-enters one of the spirits industry's most exciting and consistent growth segments," said CEO Paul Varga. "The GlenDronach, BenRiach, and Glenglassaugh single malt brands are among the finest single malts in the world and we look forward to continue building them around the globe."

Last month, Brown-Forman was reported to be considering the divestment of its Finlandia vodka brand. The speculation followed the sale of the Southern Comfort and Tuaca spirits brands to Sazerac in January for $543.5m.
