The company said today it has partnered with Cannabis Compliance, a Canadian cannabis consultancy group, to begin developing cannabis-infused non-alcoholic beers, teas and flavoured waters. The products will be available for October 2019, the expected legalisation date for the cannabis beverages retail market in Canada.

Canada officially legalised the recreational use of cannabis in October this year, however products containing the drug are still not legally allowed to be sold. Provinces are setting up a retail framework for the sale of cannabis products, with some looking to implement a similar government monopoly model that governs alcohol sales.

Brick Brewing's CEO, George Croft, said the company is positioning itself to be a major producer of cannabis-infused beverages "and to take advantage of this new and developing beverage category".

Brick also said that because of the licensing and production difficulties in bringing a cannabis beverage to market, the company will be one of the few to do so by the legalisation date.

"We have the equipment, the scale, the technical know-how and the speed to be able to pull this off in this extremely tight timeframe," Brick COO Russell Tabata said.
