The Canadian brewer, which was founded in 1984, confirmed it will trade under the Waterloo Brewing name from today, having secured approval from shareholders last week. The switch has been introduced to "honour [the company's] local craft brewing roots and reinforces a commitment to both its hometown and region".

"The time was right … to begin a new chapter in this company's history," said CEO George Croft. "We wanted to cement our commitment to our hometown and the region of Waterloo by adopting their name as our own; to become part of that regional family, legally and officially.

"We're truly grateful for the strong, deep roots as Ontario's first craft brewer."

Earlier this year, the brewer launched Waterloo Craft Lager to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the opening of its brewery in Waterloo, Ontario.
