Grupo Damm's Demetrio Carceller will head up Brewers of Europe for a further two years

Trade body the Brewers of Europe has re-elected the head of Grupo Damm, Demetrio Carceller, as its president for another two years.

Carceller, chief executive of Spanish brewer Damm, was unamiously re-elected to the role by the group, which represents 29 of Europe's national brewing associations. Carceller was first elected president two years ago

His focus for the next two years, the group said, will be to step up efforts to "actively promote moderate beer consumption and its place within a balanced lifestyle”.

The Brewers of Europe also flagged that, despite recent difficulties for the European beer sector domestically, exports from the continent between 2010 and 2013 rose by 11%.

“It is also worth noting that, in spite of a decline, a third of beer consumption in Europe is still taking place in bars and restaurants, generating EUR76bn (US$93bn) in revenues (per year) in the hospitality sector,” the body added.
