Newly-formed US wholesaler Breakthru Beverage Group has named a CFO as it filled in the remaining posts on its executive team.

Gene Luciana, who was CFO and COO at Breakthru predecessor Charmer Sunbelt, takes the financial reins at the new entity. Luciana will be based at Breakthru's New York office.

Breakthru is the result of a merger by Charmer Sunbelt and Wirtz Beverage first announced in October. The company, which has a portfolio of wine, spirits and beer brands totalling more than US$6bn in annual sales, was officially established on New Year's Day.

Joining Luciana on Breakthru's team are:

  • Arthur Wirtz, EVP, operations
  • Ann Giambusso, EVP, chief human resources officer
  •  Arlyn Miller, EVP, general counsel
  • All four will join Breakthru's executive leadership team.

When Wirtz and Charmer announced the merger they said it would be "one of the largest and most established wholesale distributors" in North America. It is the second largest wholesaler in the US, behind Southern Wine & Spirits, and replaces Charmer and Wirtz operations in markets including Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, Wisconsin and Washington DC.
