Wine growers in Bordeaux are threatening to block sales of this year's vintage in protest against a sharp fall in prices, according to reports.

Agence France Presse (AFP) said today (2 December) that the Union of Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieure Wines (SVBBS), which represents more than half of the region's 10,000 growers, are to vote on whether to boycott the allocation to the principal Bordeaux AOCs.

"I think they will vote yes for the reds, but no for the whites and roses," SVBBS secretary general Yves d'Amecourt was quoted as saying in the report.

Bordeaux has been among the French regions most seriously affected by falling demand at home and increased competition in export markets from New World wines , AFP noted.
