Bordeaux suffered further bad news this week, when export figures for the first nine months of 2004 showed a continuing decline in sales to foreign markets.

Figures from the Interprofessional Council of Bordeaux Wine (CIVB) showed that exports from the region were down 10% in volume terms and 24% in value, compared to the first nine months of 2003.

Most worryingly, exports to the US fell a massive 35% in volume and 53% in value.

Exports to the UK fell 21% in volume and 33% in value.

It wasn't all bad news with an increase in sales to Russia and the Asian market.
