Bisleri International has confirmed plans to invest around US$75m in the expansion of its Indian footprint to the tune of one factory a month for the next two years.

The move, which would see Bisleri double its presence in the Indian soft drinks and water markets, will be backed by the addition of an energy drink to the Indian company's portfolio.

"We are planning to up revenues by 70%, increase volume of sales by 60% and expand our capacity by 100%" said chairman, Ramesh Chauhan. "In the next couple of months we will have new plants in cities like Varanasi, Coimbatore, Haridwar, Bhubaneswar and Ranchi."

The expansion is also a move to lower transport costs. Bisleri already has 50 plants around the country with a total 5,000 vehicles.

In the last financial year, Bisleri's sales were around $100m. The company presently accounts for 60% of the domestic bottled water market.
