  • Elders’ Reserve ($145 per 70cl bottle)

In 2012, Berry Bros took control of The Glenrothes following a brand swap with Edrington Group.

Show the press release

Berry Bros. & Rudd Spirits is proud to unveil an entirely new series of whiskies exclusively for the international travel retail channel. This range celebrates the spiritual home of The Glenrothes. Named after the street on which Rothes House, stands, the Manse Brae range comprises Manse Reserve, Elders’ Reserve and Minister’s Reserve and will be distributed in Europe by Maxxium Travel Retail.

This is the first time that The Glenrothes has released an entirely new range of whiskies specially bottled for travel retail. The range will also benefit from stunning packaging as The Glenrothes, winner of the World’s Best Design at the World Whiskies Awards 2013, enhances the quality of its presentation while retaining the distinctive frame and bottle.

Rothes House was formerly the Minister’s home, known as the Manse; overlooking the town below, it was a place where the Elders of the Kirk would meet. The history of Glenrothes Distillery is inextricably linked with the Church of Scotland: the United Presbyterian Church of the nearby village of Archiestown lent the sum of £600 (equivalent to £50,000 today) to the distillery in its infancy, without which the distillery would never have been built.

Manse Reserve, 43% ABV £33 / €40 / $55

Soft yet rich, this whisky has been largely matured in American oak casks with the influence of some sherry oak also evident. Approachable and accessible, it typifies the elegant sophistication of Rothes House, the spiritual home of The Glenrothes, located in Manse Brae.

Tasting notes

Nose: Autumn orchard, custard creams, fleeting but recurrent floral notes

Palate: Fresh, uplifting, bottled pears and soft, alluring spices

Finish: Medium length – refreshingly fruity with uplifting spices

Elders’ Reserve, 43% ABV £80 / €99 / $145

Spicy with notes of coffee, wood and polish, this expression shows levels of complexity that can only be achieved by extended maturation. Matured for a minimum of 18 years, it reflects the wisdom of the Elders of the community of Rothes.

Tasting notes

Nose: Ripe mango, vanilla pods, ginger and toffee apple

Palate: Vanilla ice cream dusted with nutmeg, sweet with mixed, dried citrus

Finish: Sweet vanilla with lingering oakiness

Ministers’ Reserve, 43% ABV £115 / €140 / $225

Redolent of treacle, Manuka honey, vintage marmalade and dark chocolate, this expression manifests the ability of The Glenrothes to develop great character with perfect integration. Matured for a minimum of 21 years, it is the pinnacle of the Manse Brae range and, therefore, enjoys the Minister’s approval.

Tasting notes

Nose: Resinous, sweet and fruity – pink grapefruit and orange boxes

Palate: Soft cedarwood, dried fruit peel and tropical fruit with hints of rose

Finish: Lingering, spicy – cedarwood and vanilla

Ronnie Cox, Brands Heritage Director of Berry Bros. & Rudd Spirits, expounds; “The Manse is a hugely important place; home to the families that own The Glenrothes, it has always been and remains a welcoming place for kindred spirits who appreciate the exceptional quality of our whisky. Interest in The Glenrothes at travel retail is very high and so this range is really a response to consumer demand. We have decided to celebrate our spiritual home and its long history with the Kirk.”

The Manse Brae Range will be available in travel retail in the UK and European Travel Retail hubs as well as the following: Dubai, Taipei (and other airports in Taiwan), Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing, Zhuhai, Shenzhen, Kuala Lumpur and Seoul.
