Benjamin & Blum has launched a collection of "rare bottled teas" designed to be mixers for spirits or as an alternative to alcohol.

The collection comprises two expressions -  Darjeeling White Peony and Connoisseur's Oolong. The teas are cold brewed in the UK, using Scottish spring water, the company said. They also contain honey and orange.

The UK company was started by Paul Benjamin, whose grandfathers - Benjamin and Blum - sold food, drink and luxury goods in Berlin and Vienna.

Benjamin said: "Our products are not just to complement fine spirits; they can be enjoyed on their own as a refined non-alcoholic beverage. We want to offer something new and sophisticated for consumers who do not wish to drink alcohol, and the demand is rising for alcohol-free drinks with complexity and elegance."

The products are on sale through high-end retailer Selfridges. They were first launched in Hong Kong last year.

The launch marks the latest in a trend towards high-end alcohol-free drinks for adults. Earlier this year, Diageo-backed incubator fund Distill Ventures took a minority stake in Seedlip, a UK producer of so-called non-alcoholic spirits.
