James McGreevy, who was previously government affairs senior VP at the American Beverage Association (ABA), will take up the joint role on 23 June, the US national trade body said yesterday (12 May). The post of president at the Beer Institute has been vacant since Joe McClain quit the group in December.

Tim Scully, MillerCoors' VP of government affairs, has reportedly been running the group during the search for a replacement.

McGreevy, who spent nine years with the ABA, said: “I'm familiar with the job of representing a diverse constituency and the job of finding unity and consensus among otherwise fierce competitors. It's exciting to take the lead of this industry at a time when we have so much to do.”

Prior to joining the ABA, McGreevy was an associate with Minnesota law firm Larkin Hoffman.

The Beer Institute, based in Washington DC, lobbies on behalf of the US brewing industry, as well as importers and suppliers.  Separately, the Brewers Association represents the interests of US craft brewers.
