Beer wholesalers offer a major fillip to the US economy, the report says

The US beer wholesaler sector is a “hidden gem” that contributes US$54bn to the country's gross domestic product, according to a new report.

The study - America's Beer Distributors: Fueling Jobs, Generating Economic Growth & Delivering Value to Local Communities - reveals that the sector employs around 130,000 people directly and pays around $103.bn in taxes.

The sector also generates around $175m annually through community activities, according to the National Beer Wholesalers Association-commissioned report.

“The beer distribution sector is a hidden gem that has been tremendously undervalued in previous economic reports,” said Dr. Bill Latham, one of the report's authors.

“Fueling more than 345,000 direct and indirect jobs, beer distributors add $54bn to the nation’s gross domestic product and offer far-reaching benefits to brewers, retailers, consumers and government agencies at all levels.”
