According to data released by the Spanish Brewing Federation, beer consumption in Spain fell by 1.32% in 2002 to 30.72m hectolitres. The Federation also reported that per capita consumption had fallen by 3% to 73.41 litres.

In value terms, the country's brewers posted an aggregate turnover of €2.24 billion (US$2.63 billion) in 2002, representing a 5.95% increase from 2001.

Foreign visitors to Spain account for around 20% of beer consumption. The Federation said that the decrease in beer consumption was due to unfavourable weather and of a 5.5% fall in tourism revenue, even though tourist numbers actually rose by 4.3% in 2002.
