The pace of consolidation in the Chinese brewing industry appears to be continuing unabated. It was announced today that the country's fourth largest brewer Harbin Brewery Group Ltd is to pay HK$70m (US$8.97m) to buy Ballantine Managment Ltd. Ballantine holds controlling stakes in three mainland breweries, and the acquisition is part of Harbin's plan to expand its market coverage.
