Beam Suntory has launched a 27-year-old limited-edition Laphroaig as the company continues to unveil age-statement whiskies.

The 27yo will roll out globally in limited supplies, Beam Suntory said yesterday. A spokesperson for the company told just-drinks that the number of available bottles is confidential but that the product will be available through to the end of the year at the minimum.

The whisky uses Laphroaig previously aged in refill hogsheads, then transferred into first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels and refill quarter casks.

A number of new and recent Scotch releases at the Tax Free World Association exhibition in Cannes this month featured age statements, with Diageo, Beam Suntory and Bacardi leading the charge. The trend is in contrast to the raft of no-age-statement whiskies released since Edrington rolled out the first NAS expression in GTR, seven years ago.
